Historical tours of downtown Eureka Springs
Also available for weddings!
These are just some pictures that we found that we wanted to share with everyone.
Hope you like them too!
This is a rare 30 horse hitch.
That's a lot of horses to keep track of.
The Amish usually use either Belgians (like Big Jake)
or Percherons ( Like Michael ) for work horses.
If they are going to be doing a lot of plowing, etc.,
they will have three horses, in these two pics the third horse,
all the way on the right, is not doing any work, but is kept as a spare.
We just saw this and started laughing.
This is actually an old postcard.
Another Belgian like our Big Jake.
Hauling hay the olde fashioned way!
In todays terms, this might be called a 'riot van'.
We aren't sure if this type of thing was strictly for parades or crowd control.
What a way to get around town !
This is OBVIOUSLY a flat town.
Yet another great lookin old Belgian...
Here is a 6-horse-power tractor!
A six-horse conestoga wagon, making the westward trek.
If you look closely at the wagon full of ladies here,
you'll notice that it is a wagonload of sufferagists.
These 'ladies' were lead by a woman by the name of Carrie Nation.
On one of our historical tours, we show you the house she built and lived in
when she was in Eureka Springs for a few years.
She was a real coot, but we'll save that for the tour.
A typical old west Main Street scene, with a not-so typical
10 MULE hitch! This guy obviously had a great load to take a great distance over rough terrain !
